Description:
Overview
The ECOWITT WH51L is a contemporary soil moisture sensor designed to help you monitor soil conditions with ease. With an integrated LCD display and a 1m/3.28ft PVC sensor wire, it allows you to observe real-time moisture readings directly on the device and, when paired with a Ecowitt Gateway or display console, you can view data remotely via the Ecowitt app or the internet. This model emphasizes depth, durability, and flexible setup to suit gardens, greenhouses, lawns, and beds.
Key benefits at a glance
- Real-time visibility: The built-in LCD provides immediate moisture readings without needing to open an app.
- Deeper sensing: The 1m PVC wire enables measurements down to roughly 80 cm, expanding your monitoring reach.
- Rugged and weather-ready: IP68-rated waterproof probe withstands outdoor conditions for long-term use.
- Multi-channel compatibility: Works with Ecowitt gateways to support up to 8 WH51L sensors across channels.
- Flexible display options: When paired with compatible consoles, readings can be shown on-device and uploaded online.
- Calibration-ready: Custom mode translates soil humidity into AD values for calibration per manual guidance.
How pairing works
Pairing expands how you access data. The WH51L can link to Ecowitt gateways (GW1100, GW2000, GW1200) to stream moisture data to the Ecowitt app after WiFi setup. Alternatively, compatible displays such as HP2550, HP2560, HP3500, WN1820, and WN1821 can show real-time readings on-device, with some models enabling Internet uploads for remote monitoring.
Usage notes and setup tips
To maintain strong transmission, place the WH51L body at least 20 cm above the soil surface. The sensor operates within the 8-channel Ecowitt system, so plan sensor placement and channel naming in the app for easy management. The device uses a Custom Mode to interpret humidity levels as electrical signals and convert them into AD values; refer to the user manual for calibration details to align readings with your soil type.
Real-life scenarios
Garden beds, potted plants, and greenhouse layouts can benefit from continuous moisture visibility. This helps you tailor watering schedules, reduce overwatering, and support root health without guessing. The combination of a clear LCD readout, flexible wiring, and networked data access makes it easier to track soil conditions across different zones.
Note: WH51L and WH51 share the same 8 channels in the Ecowitt ecosystem. If you place the sensor near the surface, RF performance may be affected; keeping some distance from the soil surface helps maintain data reliability.
FAQ
Q: What is the ECOWITT WH51L and how does it work?
A: WH51L is a soil moisture sensor with a 1m PVC probe and LCD display; reads moisture and streams data when paired with a gateway or console.
Q: How do I pair WH51L with gateways or displays?
