Zamia furfuracea

Description:

This enigmatic little plant is a cycad, endemic to the gulf of Mexico. It can reach heights of up to 1.5 meters tall, and it is commonly known as cardboard fern, due to its coarse leaves which resemble cardboard. Stiff, arching fronds produce fuzzy leaflets which are covered in tiny golden-orange hairs. As the leaves mature they turn smooth and olive green. This slow growing plant is endangered in the wild.
